Little Kids Contact operates as a Playgroup and an Occasional Care Centre.

Playgroup members come along whenever we are open and stay with their children. Occasional Care members can leave their children during the 2.5 hours of the opening time on Mondays and Thursdays mornings. Playgroup members can become Occasional Care members simply by informing a committee member, paying an additional membership fee to the tresurer as well as by adjusting duty responsibilities if necessary.

Duties Policy

The requirement for each parent/carer to do duties is as follows:

  • Parents/Carers who use Little Kids Contact for playgroup or occasional care once a week need to do 1 duty per 4 weeks.

  • Parents/Carers who use the group for playgroup once a week and occasional care once a week will need to do 1.5 duties every 4 weeks ( 3 duties per 8 weeks)

  • Parents/Carers who use the group for occasional care twice a week need to do 2 duties every 4 weeks

  • The duty parent/carer must arrive by 9:10 am and remain on duty until 12.10 noon or until all the children have been collected. If due to emergency or illness the parents is unavailable for duty, it is his/her responsibility to find another person to fill in or to ring the activities co-ordinator to advise on his/her unavailability for the duty. Among other things, the parent on duty is responsible to help supervise the children and the activities as well as make sure that the ratio of duty parents to children left in care does not exceed 1:7, and no more that 20 children are on the premises

Discipline Policy

Our organiztaion practices a positive approach in guidance and discipline through recognizing the reason for a child to behave in a certain way and encouraging a more acceptable form of behaviour. We believe that we can influence behaviour through both actions and comments. We stress on the practise of guidance and discipline that encourage the individuality and confidence of children and never lower their self-esteem.

Our organization practises 'Direct Guidance'. We believe that presenting children with clear alternatives helps them develop the ability to make decisions and direct themselves. On Duty Staff are better able to demonstrate to, gently remonstrate with, gently restrain or remove a child when they are close by than when they are across the room or playgroup. The presence and attention of a Duty parent hepls children concentrate on an activity; the staff member can withdraw when the children are settled, encouraging them to develop their own ideas.

The group has a policy document, which list the deatils rules of the organization, relating to the safety and happiness of the children. Each parent will be presented with this policy document upon enrolment.

Infectious Diseases Policy

If a child has suffered an infectious disease he/she must stay away from the center until fully recovered. parents are required to notify the Avtivities Co-ordinator or a committee member as soon as they become aware their children may have an infectious disease or have been exposed to one. The Activities co-ordinator and the President will inform all the parents and take any precautionary actions required to reduce further spreading of the disease at the centre.

Sun Policy

All children should bring a suitable sun hat, clearly marked with their names, to all session. duty parents will make sure that the children wear them when outdoors. It is recommended that parents apply sunscreen before the child arrives at the centre. The centre has a supply of sunscreen to be used as backup. Please let a duty person know if your child is overly sensitive to sunscreen.
